Are You a Good Candidate for Laser Tattoo Removal?

Tattoos are an incredibly popular way of showing off who you are, the things that are important to you, or even just some great art! But sometimes, a tattoo you wanted when you were 18 becomes less desirable when you’re 35, and you’re ready to move on. While tattoos are a permanent form of body modification, that’s not to say that you’re forever stuck with a tattoo you hate. Some tattoos can be covered up with other tattoos, but if you’re not into cover-ups or just don’t want another tattoo in the same place, laser tattoo removal might be right for you. It all starts with scheduling a consultation at our office and learning more about the procedure.

How Does Laser Tattoo Removal Work?

The laser tattoo removal procedure relies on a high-powered laser that can seek out the pigments of the tattoo ink embedded in your skin. Tattoos are created when a needle deposits a small amount of ink under the surface layer of your skin, and the cells of the ink are too large to “escape” through the outer layer of your skin, and so they stay there permanently. A laser tuned to the correct frequency will “seek out” the darker pigmentation of the tattoo and effectively vaporize it, removing the tattoo on a cellular level. Laser tattoo removal is designed to maintain skin integrity, so your skin will still be smooth and clear once the tattoo is removed after a series of treatment sessions.

Good Candidates

Laser tattoo removal will work better for some people than others, and this depends on a number of factors. The age of the tattoo, the colors of the tattoo pigment, and the depth of the tattoo pigment are all factors in whether laser tattoo removal is a good choice for you. Depending on the particulars of the tattoo you’d like removed, our technician will determine the appropriate laser setting to meet your goals and the number of sessions required to successfully and completely remove your tattoo.

If you’re unhappy with a tattoo, you don’t need to live with it forever. Talk to our team at Metro Dermatology during a consultation. You’ll have the opportunity to discuss with a technician your candidacy for laser tattoo removal and understand the different options you have. But, most importantly, know this: if you’re unhappy with a tattoo, pursuing laser tattoo removal can have a significant and positive impact on your quality of life.
