BOTOX® for Sweating

Excessive sweating can not only stain your clothes and create a lingering, unpleasant odor, it can also make you self-conscious in social situations. If deodorant products and antiperspirants are not working effectively for you, a more advanced level of treatment may be necessary. BOTOX® treatments could be the solution to your sweating problem.

BOTOX®: Not Just for Cosmetic Enhancements

While you may be most familiar with BOTOX® for reversing the signs of aging, this neurotoxin can actually address your issues with excessive sweating. When you have hyperhidrosis, your sweat glands kick into overtime, producing sweat at an alarming rate that can be embarrassing. This especially holds true with lingering underarm sweat; it’s noticeable and inconvenient.

If no amount of antiperspirant will help and you want to avoid surgery, you should consider BOTOX®. BOTOX® is effective because it inhibits nerve signals and temporarily turns off the sweat glands. As a result, you will no longer have shirts that are wet or self-consciousness about your body odor while in social or professional situations.

What to Expect During a BOTOX® Treatment for Sweating

Before you undergo a BOTOX® treatment for intense sweating, you should avoid shaving your underarms for several days. On the day of treatment, your doctor may use one of several methods to numb your underarms, such as ice, a local anesthetic, or a nerve block. Small injections will be made in the underarm area. You can expect the procedure to take 10 minutes or less, and afterward you can immediately return to your regular activities.

Immediately following treatment, it is not recommended to take part in an extreme exercise regimen or to use a sauna. You should notice a reduction in sweating within seven days after treatment. BOTOX® treatments are not permanent. You can expect your hyperhidrosis to return any time between six months and 18 months after your treatment. At that point, you can schedule another round of BOTOX® treatments.
