Juvederm Treatment – Frequently Asked Questions

Juvederm® is one of the most commonly used dermal fillers due to its flexible uses: It can fill in deep folds and wrinkles such as the laugh lines, it can correct the appearance of hollowed cheeks, and it can plump thinning lips.  The skilled professionals at Metro Dermatology can perform this treatment on people who want to rejuvenate their face without having to undergo surgery such as a facelift.

1.  What is it made of?

Answer: While Juvederm® comes in different levels of viscosity, they all use hyaluronic acid as their main active ingredient.  This is a naturally-occurring compound that is found in the body and gives the skin its youthful plumpness by binding with water. Because these products use a compound that is naturally found in the body, the risk of adverse reactions is eliminated.  In fact, it does not require allergy testing.

2.  Why do Juvederm® products come in varying levels of cohesiveness?

Answer: The level of cohesiveness is primarily determined by the particle size.  In general, areas with thin skin such as the lips need a lighter filler to achieve smooth results, while deep folds such as the laugh lines and the gaunt cheeks require stiffer fillers for improved structure.

3.  How long do the results last?

Answer: On average, Juvederm® treatment for the lips lasts about a year, but for cheeks and laugh lines, the results can last 12-18 months, and for cheeks, it may last up to two years. However, it all depends. Some patients metabolize fillers quicker than others.  Also, facial areas that frequently move tend to experience faster resorption than more static regions.

4.  Does it require a recovery?

Answer: No!  Right after the treatment, you can resume your normal activities.  In fact, the instantaneous recovery is one of the reasons why this treatment is so popular.
