Reduce Lines Around the Mouth with Juvederm® Injectable Treatments

Fine lines around the mouth are a very common sign of aging. Juvederm® injectable treatments provide a safe and non-invasive way to correct this cosmetic issue without the need for cutting or tissue removal. This filler can be placed in the facial tissues around the lips to restore a plump, youthful look to the skin and smooth out noticeable creases and folds. Because Juvederm® treatments take mere minutes to complete, many people have them performed on their lunch breaks.

What Juvederm® is and How It Works

Juvederm® is a gel-like filler material that is primarily comprised of hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is naturally occurring within the body. It is a viscous, fluid carbohydrate that is found in the connective tissues. When injected into the face, Juvederm® restores lost volume and creates a full, youthful look across the treated area.

Once Juvederm® treatments are complete, fine lines and wrinkles in the targeted area will be entirely erased, even when the mouth is in motion and various facial expressions are made.

It is important to note, however, that the body can easily recognize hyaluronic acid. This means that injected Juvederm® will be gradually absorbed over time. As a result, Juvederm® treatments generally last between six months and one year.

Around a highly mobile area such as the mouth, these injections may last just six to nine months. Fortunately, Juvederm® treatments can be safely and successfully repeated as necessary in order to maintain the cosmetic improvements that they produce.

During Your Appointment

Before your Juvederm® injectable treatment, the provider will assess the location, depth and severity of your perioral lines. Wrinkling above or around the lips can be a natural sign of aging or the result of smoking. The provider will determine the specific location of your Juvederm® injections.

Juvederm® will then be inserted into the facial tissues to fill in all visible creases and folds around the mouth. The effects are instant and the recovery time is nominal.

What to Expect After a Juvederm® Injectable Treatment

Juvederm® produces instant results and this means that you’ll see a significant lessening of wrinkles across the treated area right away. It is not uncommon for people to experience mild to moderate bruising and swelling in the treatment area. These symptoms will gradually dissipate on their own.

You can minimize the likelihood of bruising by discontinuing your use of NSAIDs or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs several weeks before your injections are received. During the first week after your procedure, the filler materials will start to settle in, creating a more impressive and natural-looking finish.
