Stay On Top of Your Skin Health with General Dermatology Services

General dermatology encompasses the diagnosis and treatment of a wide variety of conditions ranging from relatively trivial, such as warts, to potentially life-threatening, such as melanoma. Treatments can include medication, laser therapy, and some types of surgery, just to name a few. Our dermatologist will also advise the patient on ways to take better care of their skin.

How are Rashes Treated?

A rash is a skin condition characterized by a noticeable change in the skin’s color and/or texture. It can look like a patch of red and inflamed skin, or it can look like a cluster of red bumps or blisters. Many rashes are mild enough to be treated at home with over-the-counter products. If the rash doesn’t improve within a few days or it’s accompanied by symptoms like chills, aches, or fever, the patient should call our dermatologist.

Rashes have many causes that can include the following:

• Allergic reactions
• Eczema
• Psoriasis
• Ringworm
• Chickenpox
• Scabies
• Cellulitis

Our dermatologist’s first step will, therefore, be to determine the cause of the rash. After that, the appropriate treatment can be recommended.

How Do You Treat Acne?

Acne is the most common skin complaint in the world; it affects about 80 percent of teenagers and five percent of adults. Like rashes, the milder types can often be treated at home with over-the-counter drugs. If the acne hasn’t gotten better after a certain amount of time with OTC treatment, it’s definitely time to take advantage of general dermatology services.

There are different types of acne, and they range in severity from whiteheads and blackheads, which are the mildest, to cystic acne, which is the most severe type. It is also one of the more difficult kinds of acne to treat. Treatment for acne will depend on the type and its severity.
