BOTOX vs Dysport

BOTOX® is one of the most popular non-surgical cosmetic procedures available on the market today. On an annual basis, millions of these procedures are performed. BOTOX® is an injectable that is designed to relax facial muscles that cause dynamic wrinkles. Examples of dynamic wrinkles include forehead lines, crow’s feet, and frown lines. BOTOX® has been available on the market for around 20 years for cosmetic use, and it has built a reputation as being one of the safest and most efficient ways to address dynamic wrinkles. For many years, this product stood alone in the field of non-surgical dynamic wrinkle treatments. It had no competition. Recently, Dysport® was approved by the FDA. Although Dysport® is relatively new for use in the United States, it has been used in Europe for many years. Since both of these products are designed to treat the same condition, it is not surprising that there is a lot of discussion about which of the two is the better option.

Both Dysport® and BOTOX® use a purified protein solution to relax certain facial muscles. Many have compared the difference between BOTOX® and Dysport® with comparing oranges to oranges. There are different types of oranges, but at the end of the day, they are all oranges.

One clear difference between the two products is how they defuse after injection. Dysport® diffuses more. This means that it spreads to a wider area quicker. This can be advantageous depending on the part of the face you are trying to treat and the results you want to obtain. Since BOTOX® is more potent than Dysport®, you will need less BOTOX® to achieve the same result you would with more Dysport®.

For now, in the world of dynamic wrinkle treatments, BOTOX® is king. It has name recognition, and people are comfortable using what they know. With that being said, Dysport® is becoming more and more popular as people realize the amazing results that it can provide. In many cases, BOTOX® is the best product to use. However, at other times, Dysport® is likely to give the patient the desired results. It all depends on the unique situation.
