Erase Wrinkles Around the Nose and Mouth with Restylane®

The elastic, smooth skin of our youth tends to disappear as we age. This is usually noticed on the face by the time most of us are in our 30s and 40s. Around the mouth, nose, and eyes, tiny wrinkles form because the supporting tissues are degraded to some extent.

While smiling or frowning brings out folds and wrinkles, there is a simple solution to this problem. Restylane® filler treatment targets these problem areas by the injection of hyaluronic acid, and this stimulates increased moisture, resulting in fuller, smoother skin. At Metro Dermatology, we are proud to offer this treatment as a non-surgical alternative for our clients.

How Restylane® Works

Restylane® is a non-animal formula gel that contains a high dose of hyaluronic acid. This natural substance is found in the human body, but most adults do not have sufficient amounts to keep the supporting tissues beneath the skin strong and supple. Restylane® involves the injecting of this gel beneath the dermal layers. The acid draws moisture to the layers where collagen is produced. The tissue plumps up, and the new cell growth is healthier.

Preparing for Restylane® Filler Treatment

The skin around the nose and lips is very thin. This is why many adults notice age lines and skin wrinkling in these areas. Before treatment, we sit down with our client and discuss the entire procedure.

We map out the treatable areas and work up a dosage that is suitable. During the procedure, the patient may be given a local topical anesthetic. The injections are made with a very thin needle that penetrates below the dermal layers. The gel is then injected, and the needle removed. The acid works as a drawing agent, bringing in water and lymphatic fluid to the treatable area.

Long-Lasting Results

The entire treatment session may take 45 minutes. There is no downtime for the patient. Normal activities can be resumed immediately. We may prescribe a soothing cream or gel for use on the skin if needed. Some irritation may persist for a day or two, but this soon disappears.

The treatment may be staged in several sessions if the treatable area is large. The results are not permanent, but even after the gel is absorbed by the body, the increased moisture level in the areas around the nose and mouth is sustained for a considerable amount of time.
