How Does Ultherapy® Work?

Skin tightening treatments are different from peels and fillers because they actually stimulate collagen production. This is achieved by energizing the skin and the underlying tissues. The body responds by sending nutrients to the affected areas, and the energy absorption results in an increase in collagen production.

Ultherapy® uses ultrasound energy to target problem areas on the face, neck and chin. This time-tested method of skin rejuvenation is particularly effective in decreasing the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, creases and skin folds. Ultrasound energy passes right through the skin and works to strengthen the underlying support tissues. This is a non-invasive alternative to such procedures as chemical peels, skin abrasion and filler injections. We highly recommend this procedure for our clients who complain of age-related wrinkling and sagging of the skin.

The Science Behind Ultherapy®

Ultrasound energy is highly concentrated, but it doesn’t produce any measure of discomfort for the client. The instrument used delivers energy that safely penetrates through to the underlying tissues. The skin itself is not directly affected.

The energy is absorbed by the support tissues. The area heats up slightly, and the body responds as if an injury has occurred. Nutrients are rushed to the site via the bloodstream, and the energy actually kick-starts a process that results in an increase in the production of collagen. Over the next couple of months following treatment, noticeable smoothing and tightening of the skin becomes apparent.

Tightening of the Face, Neck and Chin

Ultherapy® has been proven effective in reducing the appearance of sagging skin, crow’s feet, smile lines and drooping chin skin. It is equally effective at tightening the skin on the neck areas. Depending on the severity of the problem, several treatment sessions may be scheduled over the course of a month or two.

What Patients Can Expect

We first consult with the client and note the areas where sagging, poorly supported skin are located. We determine the thickness of the skin and use this information to calibrate the instrument. A typical treatment session can last from 30 minutes to over an hour depending on the size of the areas to be treated.

There is no downtime following treatment. Clients may feel a vibration during treatment, and the areas treated may feel a bit sensitive for the rest of the day. Generally, treatment is not scheduled for consecutive days.

The advantages of Ultherapy® are many and include long-lasting results, no surgical procedures and no chemical applications. While this procedure is not a substitute for a full facelift or a neck lift, the results are often just as positive.
