Laser Hair Removal FAQs

Laser hair removal has become an increasingly popular treatment with our clients.  It is a way to significantly diminish or permanently remove unwanted body hair.  With a series of treatment sessions, you could spend a long time without waxing, tweezing, shaving or using other hair removal methods, saving you time and money for years to come.  Our team at Metro Dermatology can help you decide if laser hair removal is right for you.

How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?

Laser therapy for hair removal works by using a finely tuned laser designed to target the pigments within the hair follicle.  Following the treatment, the follicle stops producing hair.  The process is designed to prevent damage to the surrounding tissues.

What Areas of the Body Can Be Treated?

Almost every part of your body can be treated with laser therapy.  The exception is the area of bone, the ridge, that surrounds your eye socket.

How Long Do the Treatments Take?

The amount of time needed for your treatment depends on a number of individual factors.  As a rule, the larger the area, the longer the treatment time.  Smaller areas like the upper lip may take just minutes to complete.

Why are Multiple Treatment Sessions Needed?

Hair grows in cycles.  The treatment is most effective during the growing cycle because that is when the most pigment is present to absorb the laser light.  Each treatment targets hairs that were dormant during the previous sessions to ensure all follicles are adequately treated.

Am I a Good Candidate?

We recommend coming in for a consultation no matter your skin tone or hair color/texture as that is the best way to determine your candidacy.
