MOSAIC Fractional Laser for Skin Tightening

Fractional laser treatment is a non-surgical procedure used to treat wrinkles, fine lines, acne scars, loose skin, discoloration, sun damage and stretch marks. The specialist uses a device that divides a laser beam into thousands of microscopic treatment zones and aims it at the patient’s skin. This process of skin tightening is akin to altering a photograph pixel by pixel.

What Does the Procedure Involve?

In fractional laser treatment for skin tightening, the technician aims the lasers at both the epidermis and the dermis. It, therefore, both removes damaged epidermis and stimulates the production of collagen. The procedure gives the patient healthy, new skin and tightens up the underlying layers to make the skin firm and smooth.

During this skin tightening treatment, the specialist uses a handheld device that emits the lasers and runs it over the treatment site. The time varies depending on the size of the treatment area. For example, treating the whole face may take around 30 minutes. Most people will need multiple sessions given every two to six weeks to get the desired results.

What is MOSAIC Fractional Laser?

The MOSAIC fractional laser is a device that uses a technology called Controlled Chaos Technology, or CCT, that scatters laser beams in a random, but even pattern. It produces a natural-looking result. The MOSAIC uses an erbium laser, which is less likely to cause changes in pigmentation than are CO2 lasers. It is, therefore, safer for dark-skinned patients than other lasers.

Erbium lasers for skin tightening also generally involve a shorter recovery period. The MOSAIC laser is adjustable and can be used to treat both small and large areas.

What is the Recovery Like?

Full recovery from this skin tightening treatment typically takes around four weeks, and the new skin will be very sensitive. It may look like the patient has a sunburn for the first two or three days after the treatment, but this goes away.

The patient will have to be very careful and minimize their time in the sun during their recovery. If they have to go out in the sun, they should wear a broad-brimmed hat and use a broad spectrum sunscreen.
