Platelet Rich Plasma for Facial Rejuvenation

Everyone wants to look and feel their best, but time will take quite a toll on our skin. Years of sun damage and ongoing exposure to toxins can result in cosmetic issues ranging from wrinkles to bags under our eyes. Invasive procedures are one way to treat these issues, but you might be able to take years off of your appearance without going under the knife. Thousands of patients have recently turned to platelet rich plasma, or PRP, treatments to rejuvenate their looks and achieve their cosmetic goals.

What is PRP?

Your body naturally produces substances that allow you to heal yourself after you have been wounded. This includes many of the unique molecules in your blood, such as the platelets. When we have been injured, blood rushes to the area to begin the healing process and protect us from further damage. Over the years, researchers found they could extract the platelets from one’s blood and create platelet rich plasma.

The process of creating platelet rich plasma is almost identical to giving blood. The blood is extracted and a specialized centrifuge is then used to separate the platelets from the other molecules. Once an adequate amount of PRP has been created, the doctor can inject it directly into a patient’s skin, or apply it to the skin topically. This type of therapy has been used for countless medical and cosmetic issues over the years ranging from arthritis to reproductive problems. When applied to one’s face, however, it promotes the healing process and stimulates the production of collagen.

Is Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy Right for Me?

Unlike other injectables, PRP is made from a patient’s own blood. Patients who undergo this treatment have virtually no chance of experiencing an allergic reaction. This makes PRP therapy an excellent option for anyone who happens to be prone to allergic reactions from dermal fillers. Platelet rich plasma therapy is also a great choice for patients who are not ready to undergo an invasive cosmetic surgery to eradicate facial wrinkles and other blemishes.

A Look at Your Appointment

Platelet rich plasma therapy is an outpatient treatment that requires no anesthetics, incisions or sutures. Patients are typically in and out of their appointment in just 30 or 45 minutes, depending on how large of an area they would like to treat.

Before the treatment session begins, patients must first consult with our medical professional to ensure they do not have any medical conditions that will affect the treatment. Depending on how well the patient cares for their skin after the treatment, most see improvements within four to six weeks of their first session.
