Stop Shaving and Waxing Once and for All with Laser Hair Removal

While shaving and waxing are typically the most conventional methods of hair removal, they are time-consuming, costly, and temporary solutions to the problem of unwanted hair. With laser hair removal, people can look forward to permanent, painless hair removal results. Best of all, laser hair removal procedures are virtually painless and open to nearly all those seeking treatment.

Downsides of Alternative Methods

Shaving and waxing are both only temporary solutions to hair removal. Since shaving only removes hair just above the surface of the skin, unwanted hair can return within a matter of hours. Waxing, a common alternative to shaving, can be painful and costly. While it produces results that last longer than those of a close shave, it does not reduce hair regrowth for significantly longer. This is because waxing rips individual hairs from the hair follicles while leaving the follicles themselves intact. As a result, these follicles will begin to produce new hairs within a matter of days or weeks.

Both of these hair removal methods have some unsightly, uncomfortable, and even dangerous side effects, including:

  • Temporary redness
  • Itchy skin
  • Nicks
  • Red bumps
  • Ingrown hairs
  • Follicle infections (folliculitis)

With these side effects in mind, the temporarily lower cost of shaving and waxing is outweighed by their potential downsides.

How it Works

During laser hair removal, special lasers are used to destroy hair follicles with beams of light. These beams target specific areas, so hair is only removed exactly where you want it. Although most patients see results immediately, it usually takes several treatments for all follicles within the targeted area to be destroyed. The surface of the treated skin will remain hair-free once all follicles in the area are removed.

Why Laser Hair Removal?

Shaving and waxing have two major flaws: they can both be fairly painful and while they temporarily solve the problem of removing unwanted hair, results usually do not last much longer than a few weeks. Laser hair removal takes care of these problems; it is a painless and permanent solution to unwanted hair.

Compared to the often considerable amount of pain caused by waxing, laser hair removal is relatively painless. Many people liken the sensation of laser hair removal treatments to the feeling of being gently popped by a rubber band.

While laser hair removal does require several treatments to produce permanent results, receiving several treatments nearly guarantees these results. As the hair follicles are gradually destroyed, fewer pulses of light will be necessary during each treatment. Best of all, patients will see thinner, finer hairs growing in the targeted area until hair stops growing altogether.

Am I a Good Candidate for Laser Hair Removal?

While laser hair removal can be done on nearly every skin type, ideal candidates typically have light skin and dark hair. If you do not have these specific traits, it does not mean that you cannot receive laser hair removal treatment. Nearly everyone with some pigment to their hair can participate, but it’s to consult your doctor to see if you are a good candidate for the procedure.
