Is Dysport the Same Thing as Botox?

There are so many injectables on the market right now that it can be hard to keep track of what they are and what they treat. However, one thing remains: injectables are effective treatments that combat the signs of aging. At Metro Dermatology in Elmhurst, NY, we offer two popular injectables, Botox and Dysport as a way to temporarily remove fine lines and wrinkles. These anti-aging injectables are similar, yet they are also unique in their own ways.

Are Dysport and Botox the Same Thing?

The Similarities

Dysport and Botox are both neurotoxins: anti-aging injectables that keep the muscles from contracting. The repetitive motion of muscle contractions along with repeated facial expressions cause lines and wrinkles to form, but neurotoxins stop the muscle movement in its tracks, temporarily disabling it.

Lines and wrinkles are replaced with smooth skin. Both last for approximately four to six months and both can safely be re-administered every four months.

The Differences

While both of these injectables essentially perform the same job, they are meant to target different areas. Dysport was designed to specifically target frown lines that develop between the eyebrows, often referred to as the 11 lines.

It is a good option for those who still want facial movement but also want to get rid of frown lines. Botox targets a wider range of problem areas and can be used both aesthetically and medically.

Dysport: An Effective Treatment for Frown Lines

Dysport is a specialized neurotoxin that is very specific: it treats moderate to severe frown lines. When you have frown lines, they can make you appear angry or upset even when your face is at rest.

This injectable temporarily disables the muscles in the area between the eyebrows, resulting in smoother, line-free skin. It is injected into five different points across the area to prevent the muscle from contracting and to provide natural, subtle results.

The Benefits of Dysport

This treatment is a popular way to treat frown lines without changing the appearance of your facial features. In a study, 97% of women who chose this injectable revealed that they would return for follow-up treatments. It is a safe and effective way to treat frown lines, especially for those who don’t want to treat other areas of their face.

It’s Natural

If your frown lines have become a main focal point on your face, this injectable will help change that. The 5-point injection process disables the muscles in this area so that those lines soften, and you look like you again.

For those who want to look completely natural, this injection only disables the muscle causing the frown lines, nothing else. The rest of your face will continue to move as it normally would. You will look like yourself, just more rested and alert.

It’s Safe

This injectable is a popular treatment for frown lines and is currently approved for use in 69 countries. It is backed with over 25 years of experience clinically, so you can trust in its effectiveness and safety.

It’s Long-Lasting

The results of this injection last for up to five months. That is five months where you won’t have to apply wrinkle creams or face stickers in an attempt to unsuccessfully treat your frown lines.

You will see your results develop within two to three days after treatment, and you will be able to enjoy them for up to five months. When you begin to notice that your results are fading, you can schedule a follow-up appointment to maintain your wrinkle-free results.

Botox: A Comprehensive Treatment for Wrinkles and More

The most natural, ideal solution to fine lines and wrinkles would be to just stop moving your face, but we know that isn’t possible. That is where Botox comes in. Botox does what you reasonably cannot by temporarily disabling the muscles in the face so that they stop moving, and your wrinkles go away.

Botox for Aesthetic Treatment

The most common use of Botox is for the treatment of aesthetic concerns. Thanks to this anti-aging injectable, millions of individuals have been able to improve their appearance and reduce the signs of aging on their face. The three primary areas it treats are frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead lines.

Frown Lines

Like Dysport, Botox can treat the lines that form between your eyebrows. Whenever you make a furrowed brow, the constant folding of the skin between your eyebrows creates lines that, over time, don’t disappear when your muscles stop moving.

They become a visible part of your face and can cause you to look older and angrier than you are. Whether those lines are fine or deep-set, Botox injections between the eyebrows will temporarily remove those lines.

Crow’s Feet

Contractions of the muscles around the eyes cause crow’s feet. These can be very mild lines to deep-set, far-reaching ones that most often appear when you smile.

Smiling makes the muscles in the outer eye area contract, but you shouldn’t have to feel as though you can’t smile for fear that your lines will become a focal point. Injections at the outermost part of the eye area will temporarily remove those lines creating a smoother appearance.

Forehead Lines

Forehead lines are some of the most common lines because the forehead is an area where the majority of facial expression appears. When you raise your eyebrows, forehead muscles activate and that repetitive up and down motion over time leads to wrinkles and lines.

If your lines are very fine, but they bother you, Botox can erase them. If your lines are moderate or deep-set and you are tired of them defining your forehead, Botox will erase them here as well.

Botox for Medical Treatment

While the majority of Botox injections solve aesthetic problems like fine lines and wrinkles, it is not only limited to the face. Botox has been successfully integrated into health-related treatments. It has branched out from the cosmetic world into the medical world and is making a difference in its ability to temporarily treat a variety of medical ailments including:

  • Chronic migraines
  • Muscle stiffness in the arms and legs of children ages 2 to 17
  • Muscle stiffness in the arms and legs of adults
  • Blepharospasm (eyelid spasms)
  • Strabismus (issues with eye muscles)
  • Overactive bladder disorders
  • Cervical dystonia (a condition where the neck is positioned abnormally)
  • Hyperhidrosis (a condition causing excess underarm sweat)

Things to Know About Botox

If you have never had a Botox treatment, there are some important things you should know that will educate you regarding what Botox is, what it isn’t, and what you can do to get the best results.

A Generic Version Doesn’t Exist

The FDA has determined that Botox meets a standard of safety and effectiveness that no other product can claim as its own. It uses a unique measurement system to administer injections, measuring each of those injections in units. Do not trust a product that claims to be a generic version of Botox

It Isn’t Permanent

After your effects wear off, your face will return to its pre-Botox appearance. Your lines and wrinkles will return after approximately four months if you do not schedule follow-up treatments. Scheduling your appointments every four months will ensure that you maintain the most consistent results and that your fine lines and wrinkles do not return between treatments.

You Can Discontinue Use When Needed

If you suddenly need to discontinue injections, you can easily do so. Whether you are pregnant or nursing and your doctor advises you to temporarily stop treatments, or whatever the reason, you can discontinue Botox for as long as needed and resume when you are ready to do so. Once you resume injections, your fine lines and wrinkles will respond as they did previously, and you will get your wrinkle-free face back.

Your Injector Matters

Injecting Botox is an art form. The cheapest Botox is not always the best Botox, and who you choose to inject your face matters. You may have seen Botox gone wrong, but bad Botox doesn’t come from a bad product; it comes from poor technique. We take the injection process very seriously, and when you schedule an appointment with us, you can trust that your face is in skilled hands.

It’s an FDA-Approved Injectable

Botox is an established injectable. It wasn’t developed last week, and when you choose this treatment, you don’t have to worry that you will be the company’s guinea pig. It has been tested and studied over the past decade, and its results are time-tested and proven. You can rest assured that this product is safe, it’s been studied, and the majority of those who choose it have nothing but positive things to say about it.

Botox Isn’t Just for Women

This injectable may have started out as a popular anti-aging treatment among women, yet in recent years, it has gained popularity among men as well for its ability to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles in a subtle, natural way. Men don’t have to live with wrinkles anymore if they don’t want to. They can choose this treatment as a way to improve their appearance without looking plastic or noticeably different.

Botox Is Customizable

Because it is measured in units, the total amount of Botox needed to smooth lines and reduce wrinkles varies from person to person. It is a customizable treatment that will look different for each patient. Faces age differently, so the location and amount of each Botox injection depend on each patient’s unique needs. At your appointment, we can develop an individual treatment plan for you based on your needs, goals, and your face.

Injections Don’t Take Long

If you’re wondering how long your appointment will take, the answer is, not long. Botox qualifies as a lunch-break injectable because you can literally schedule your appointment during your lunch break and be back to work within the hour. Appointments last anywhere from 10-20 minutes. This makes treatments accessible for the busiest of individuals. You won’t have to block out a lot of time on your calendar for your appointments.

Results Develop Quickly

You won’t have to wait long to see your wrinkles fade. You will begin to notice results from your treatment within 24-48 hours, and you will continue to see your results develop in the weeks following treatment.

Which Injectable Is Right for Me?

Both of these injectables are effective, but they target and treat different areas. If you know that you want to begin anti-aging treatments with one of these injectables, but you still are not sure which is right for you, we can help. When you schedule your consultation, our skincare experts will review your health history, discuss your goals, and analyze your skin. We will help determine which of these injectables will give you the results that you want.

Press the Pause Button on the Aging Process

While these two injectables may be different from each other, one thing remains: they are both effective ways to push the pause button on the aging process. Aging happens to everyone, but you don’t have to be reminded of it every time you look in the mirror. If you’re ready to regain your youthful appearance and say goodbye to frown lines, forehead lines, or crow’s feet, contact us today at Metro Dermatology in Elmhurst, NY, and schedule your initial consultation.
